Using bubbles to discover Pi

Last week we explored Pi using bubble analysis. Students blew bubbles onto the black lab tables and when they popped, used the circle outline to measure circumference and diameter. They ran some calculations with the numbers (c+d, c-d), c x d, c/d) and looked for patterns in the data. How do we get pi = 3.14? c/d!

Upcoming Filming for the Production

We begin filming next week for the Production (the 60 minute film the students are in the process of writing, acting, filming and editing by June 5th).

Filming will happen during the school days Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 1:00-3:15 and very often students will be off campus. Please keep this in mind if you have early pickups or appointments.

Sally, Bert and I will fan out with the three groups (we have three full sets of recording equipment). If you need to reach us our cell #'s are:
Darin- (206) 718-5979
Sally- (206) 852-3418
(Bert is cell phone-less)

You may be asked by your 8th grader and/or her crew to drive for one of these days. If you are graciously willing to help out, before you take students off campus, please make sure we have on file (with an 8th grade teacher):
- background check- section C only (see below)
- copy of license
- copy of insurance

We understand many of you have filled out this information before as volunteers, but note that we need it updated every year.

Thanks in advance for your help and support!
We couldn't do it without you!

Also, be sure your calendars are marked for our premier, 6:00pm, June 5th at the Museum of Flight's Allen Theater! Wahoo!
